My Mind Map - Making the Connections

In this week’s post is a picture of my mind map. It gives you a picture of what my learning network looks like. A shift in focus to myself this week, I write about how the picture you see above describes how I learn. My ability as an individual to make connection in learning provides the opportunity to think in a wider range and think critically. I use a wide range of information presented to me in a plethora of forms for me to critically evaluate and build or modify existing knowledge.

Tools that best facilitate my learning will be technology tools: the digital age that we are in allows for a varied array of learning medium. Using the Internet to attend webinars, reading and following related blog pages, collaborations through IM and skype or Google docs and a number of communication mediums all help in facilitating my learning experience.

A question goes off in my head; a question that could have been triggered by conversations, readings, email, meetings and so on which means the call for new knowledge or time to modify an existing one. Following the map shown above, it gives you an idea of where I would go and how I would use the tools to accomplish my learning objective.

  1. Lola,

Excellent mind map! I like the detail you included under each of your connection topics. In your “Media” and “Technology” sections on your mind map, if you were to pick just one of your tools out of each of these for learning and making connections, which would you choose and why? I know they are all important, or you would not have included in them; I am curious and fascinated to find what single tool works best for others.

I see you used NovaMind for your mind map. How did you like using it? I have used Inspiration and Kidspiration, in my classroom, so I first chose Webspiration to create my mind map. I did not find it very user-friendly so I switched to FreeMind and found it straightforward and free is always good too!

    Once again, excellent job Lola!

  2. Lola,
Your mind map was really cool. I liked following the paths and thinking "me too". I also love the digital age that lets me find more and more information on everything I want to learn and in different formats.

I used a program called MindView by Matchware. I've gone to several of their demos and have always liked the program. I want to buy the full version, but keep hoping my school will decide to purchase a site license. I like the idea of ind maps for students when developing their research papers. It helps them understand how to create a central theme and then supporting arguments. I'm excited about the number of free programs introduced in this class. I've already put them in the resource links in my classes.

  3. Thanks Grace and LeAnn.

LeAnn if I were to pick one though hard to do because they all serve different purpose, it would be google and the webniars I join for project management and computer information related web conferences which are mostly free by the way.

NovMmind was easy to use though I like freemind because it is free :) Novamind however which I am now going to purchase allows me to create excellent lecture notes and training maps for work which I find very helpful.
